My Father had a big problem with internet fraud when he used his credit card online. Another place you can go to Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce - The ACCC is a member of the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce - a group of 18 Government regulatory agencies and departments who have a remit for consumer protection in relation to frauds and scams. Taskforce members are joined in communicating with Australian consumers about scams by a range of community, non-Government and private sector organisations.
I have had to use the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce only this year. We had a credit card with a limit of $6000. We hadnt used the card for over six months. We owed nothing on it. But all of a sudden we where getting statements saying we owed the full amount. We had never used the card. We had a lot of luck with the Fraud Taskforce. Seems that a motel that we had stayed at had an employee that somehow got our credit card number after we had left a deposit over the phone with it. We got all the money back adventuraly.
Banks are so much more aware of this problem that they are constantly devleoping new methods to prevent more fraud cases occuring.
Also the police are constantly setting up task force for this white collar crime.
